The 6-day Kilimanjaro Rongai route is unique as the only trail that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. Although it has been gaining popularity, the Rongai route still sees relatively low traffic, making it an excellent choice for climbers seeking a quieter, more secluded trek.
It’s especially favored by those looking for an alternative to the busier Marangu route, those who prefer a more remote hiking experience, or those climbing during the rainy season, as the northern side of the mountain typically receives less precipitation.
This route requires a minimum of six days, although a seven-day trek is recommended to allow for better acclimatization. While the Rongai route may not offer the diverse scenery found on some of the western routes. It compensates by taking trekkers through untouched wilderness areas for several days before merging with the Marangu route at Kibo Camp. The descent follows the Marangu route, providing a well-rounded Kilimanjaro experience.
