Marangu Route is commonly known as the Coca Cola route. It is more popular because it can be done in fewer days and has permanent sleep huts at the campsites.
Summit night from Kibo Hut is steep and passes Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak. It is a shorter route with a steeper incline and less time for acclimatization it tends to have a lower summit success rate. This is the only route where the ascent and descent route are shared, thus creating more traffic.

You will have a chance for briefing, checking on your pack list and introduction about your trek to Kilimanjaro.
Early in the morning, after breakfast you will take a drive from Arusha town to Kilimanjaro National Park. Marangu gate lies at the edge of Marangu village with very attractive small coffee and banana plantations.
After completing the entrance formalities, you will climb up through an attractive and unspoiled forest to reach the clearing containing Mandara Hut.

Climb steadily through the moorland zone, containing giant heather and occasional stands of groundsel, to eventually reach Horombo Hut.
Sunrises and sunsets are often very stunning. The site is close to the glaciated dome of Kibo and there is a real sense of being above the clouds.

Climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The terrain changes to screed and there is a palpable sense of high-altitude wilderness.
We usually reach Kibo Hut at the bottom of the crater wall by midday and the afternoon is free (to contemplate the summit ascent!!). The remainder of the day is spent resting and eating in preparation for the final climb before a very early night.
